Locked Out of WD My Cloud ex2 Ultra

Got it 👍 — you’re locked out of your WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra. This usually means either:

You forgot or lost the admin password for the web dashboard, or

The device is not accepting your login credentials (dashboard or shares).

Here’s how you can recover access step by step:

🔹 Step 1: Try Default Access

If it’s a share access issue (Windows/Mac network folder login), try using the correct My Cloud user account, not your PC login.

If it’s the dashboard (http://<deviceIP>), check if another admin user exists that you can log in with.

🔹 Step 2: Perform a 4-Second Reset (Non-Destructive)

This reset does not erase your data. It only resets the admin password and network settings.

Make sure the EX2 Ultra is powered on.

On the back of the device, press and hold the reset button for about 4 seconds with a paperclip.

Release it.

The device will reboot.

After this:

The admin password is cleared (leave it blank when logging in).

Network mode resets to DHCP (get IP from your router).

Your shares and data remain intact.

Try logging in again at:

http://<device IP address>/

with:

Username: admin

Password: (leave blank)

🔹 Step 3: If Still Locked Out

If the 4-second reset doesn’t work, try the 40-second reset (also non-destructive):

Power on the EX2 Ultra.

Press and hold the reset button for 40 seconds.

The device will reboot with:

Admin password cleared

Network back to DHCP

Cloud access disabled until you re-enable it

Data and shares still intact

🔹 Step 4: After Regaining Access

Log in with admin (no password).

Set a new strong password.

Re-enable cloud access if you use the My Cloud app.

Update firmware if needed.

🔹 Step 5: Last Resort

If neither reset works, possible issues:

Firmware corruption → may require re-flash.

Disk error → device boots but can’t authenticate.

In worst case, you can remove the drives, connect them to a Linux PC (they use EXT4 format), and recover data manually.

✅ Best first try: Do the 4-second reset (safe, non-destructive).
