New drive purchase - cannot setup password

If you've **just purchased a new WD Elements drive** and **can't set up a password**, that's expected—**WD Elements drives do not support hardware encryption or password protection via WD software**.

### 🔒 Why You Can't Set a Password:

WD Elements models (including your WDBPCK0010BBK-EESN) are **basic storage drives** and:

* **Do not include hardware encryption**

* **Do not support WD Security or WD Drive Utilities**

* Are meant for **plug-and-play backup/storage only**

Only WD drive series like **WD My Passport**, **WD My Book**, and **WD My Cloud** support built-in password protection.

### 💡 Your Options Now:

You can still secure your new drive using **third-party encryption software**. Here’s a quick recommendation:

#### 👉 **Option 1: VeraCrypt** (Best for all platforms)

* Works even if your drive doesn’t support WD Security

* Lets you create encrypted containers or encrypt the whole drive

* Download: [https://www.veracrypt.fr](https://www.veracrypt.fr)

#### 👉 **Option 2: BitLocker** (If on Windows Pro/Enterprise)

* Built into Windows—just right-click the drive > “Turn on BitLocker”

* Not available on Windows Home

#### 👉 **Option 3: Format & Encrypt (macOS)**

* Open Disk Utility > Erase > Choose format (APFS or HFS+) > "Encrypt"
